Generally, people either seem to love or hate this drill and We’d like to get our single pennyworth in. After reading about a million reviews. we didn’t know what to think and, we thought perhaps we could help our fellow buyers to make a purchasing decision based on our confidently informed opinion. We are familiar with most of the tools that you would find in a working woodshop.

We were surprised by all the negative reviews. It seems that a lot of folks are facing difficulties with this cordless drill;

  • chuck failing or not holding bits properly,
  • overheating and smoking,
  • charging issues or battery dead within a short period, etc.

Recommendations

One of the reasons we recommend this drill because It’s a low budget price. this drill looks quite interesting. With its bright colors and swirly lines, it looks like something Coyote in Roadrunner cartoon would use. If you’ll note carefully, the barrel is somewhat shorter than the average cordless drill. It is attractive; We like the look of the new flat battery packs as opposed to the previous, clunky “stick-type” batteries. we noted that this drill is 20V which, you would think would make it more influential but, in looking at the torque rating, it’s not necessarily so.

Most Frequent Complaints about LDX120C BLACK+DECKER Cordless drill

Now, we are going to comment on one of the most frequent complaints in other reviews. Many reviewers are complaining about the bit not being held tightly in the chuck. Please note that the icon of the screw is uppermost on the barrel. This is important when chucking in a bit as it ensures maximum torque and tightness. If you have “10” or any other number at the top of the barrel, you are in a “torque setting” which is used when driving screws.

This means that when you achieve a certain tension, the clutch will slip and fail to tighten the chuck further. If you hear a clicking sound when tightening the chuck around a bit, then you need to adjust the ring so the screw icon is on top. Also, make sure to wearing leather gloves. Normally, when hand-shrinking the chuck, it will escape your grip and spin, burning your hand. Because of this, most of us don’t exert all the pressure we’re capable of. With gloves protecting your hands, if it slips, you don’t get burned and you’re capable of tightening your grip and getting maximum holding power among the chuck/bit.

The holding power of the chuck is reliant completely upon the tightness of “YOUR” grip when inserting the bit and holding the chuck ring. We think that common of the complaints affecting to this problem would be solved if the above two suggestions were followed. Nothing in the construction of the drill leads us to believe that it is some kind of manufacturing failure.

LDX120C model Practical Results

To double-check this LDX120C BLACK+DECKER 20V MAX Cordless Drill, we were run few tests, moreover, we used white pine hardwood as a test object due to the lumber that most property holders commonly use, it would be more appropriate for our tests and, since 3/4″ stock is far and away from the most common lumber that we would utilize this thickness. Our results were as follows:

TestResults
Drill Three 1/4″ holes through 3/4″ stock with a brad point bitAccomplished
Drill Three 1/2″ holes through 3/4″ stock with a brad point bitAccomplished
Drive Three 3/8″ Lag Bolts through previous 1/4″ holes in 3/4″ stockAccomplished
Drill Three 5/8″ holes through 3/4″ stock with Forstner BitAccomplished
Drill Three 7/8″ holes through 3/4″ stock with Spade BitAccomplished

At this stage, we were expecting the battery life might be gone. Using a spade bit is tough and challenging on any drill. So, we decided to up the ante; We increased the size of the spade bit to 1 3/8″ (a very large hole undeniably) and the stock thickness to 2″ stock (minor 1 5/8″, a 2×4). My purpose was to continue to drill holes to the point of rejection of the battery to rotate the drill. Results as follows:

TestResults
Drill 1 3/8″ holes through 1 5/8 ” stock till failure3 1/2 holes Accomplished

Now, to be honest, when we stopped, the battery was still rotating the chuck and bit but, it was starting to bog down. In other words, battery failure was about to happen. Could we have finished the 4th hole? Yeah, maybe we could have harmed the tool and forced it to finish but, it didn’t have much left.

Who handled the tool was felt the heat of the barrel even though wearing leather gloves. As well as it was seeming to us that to continue, He would probably burn the motor, which made no sense to us. You can take our word for it; This drill would not have finished the 5th hole without terrible failure. By the way, we do not recommend using spade bits with a hand-held drill. They are mostly hard on a drill and, although I rarely use them, the only reason we applied them in this testing was that we knew they would put a significant drain on the battery. Especially using a large diameter bit like the 1 3/8″ comes very close to the definition of abusing your tools so, if you can avoid it, I suggest not subjecting your drill to loads such as this.

Conclusions

We recommend LDX120C BLACK+DECKER 20V MAX Cordless drill is well appropriate to use for domestic handy works.

FAQ

Is LDX120C BLACK+DECKER 20V MAX Cordless drill suitable for daily professional use?

Not at all, even if it might last a while. We also think a pro would want a drill with a little more torque and additional drilling speed. However, even though the LDX120C listed torque is low, while we were drilling the largest holes with the spade bit, when it caught in the hole it had enough torque to spin the handler’s wrist around.

so, it should be acceptable for most of us. We also think that because of its lightweight it would be an ideal drill for a woman and I think the creators did a good job of “splitting the difference” in designing a grip that is both large enough for a grown man and small enough to be comfortable for the typical woman.

How to classify the sizes?

5/32, 1/8, 3/16, 7/32, 1/4, 5/16

Is this drill sized and weighted suited for women’s use?

Yes of course! It is compact and light-weighted. a great choice for any woman’s toolbox. It’s not heavy duty enough for home use.

Does it come with a charger and battery?

Yes, the charger and battery are included in the set. The battery is long duration, lasting multiple tasks.

Does it come with a light?

If you are asking if it has a built-in light “yes” it does and the LED light activates when you depress the trigger. If you are looking for a separate light that uses the same battery “no”.
